Marani Alexandrouli 2019 – Rare Georgian Red Wine

Elegant, expressive, and deeply rooted in Georgian heritage, the Marani Alexandrouli 2019 showcases one of the country’s most prized indigenous red grape varieties.

Naturally perfumed and vibrant, Alexandrouli produces wines with lifted aromatics, bright red fruit, and a softer structure — making it an ideal choice for those seeking finesse over power. In this expression, Marani delivers a beautifully balanced wine that is both approachable and quietly complex.

If you enjoy Pinot Noir, this is a compelling Georgian alternative — offering similar red berry brightness and elegance, with a slightly more exotic, floral edge that reflects its unique origin.

Sourced from carefully selected vineyards and crafted with a light touch, this wine bridges the gap between familiar Old World styles and Georgia’s distinctive winemaking tradition.

About the Grape – Alexandrouli

Alexandrouli is an ancient Georgian red grape variety, most famously grown in the Racha region, where it plays a key role in the renowned semi-sweet wine Khvanchkara.

In its dry form, as seen here, Alexandrouli reveals a different side — more structured and refined, while still retaining its hallmark aromatics and vibrant acidity. The grape is naturally lower in tannin than Saperavi, making it softer and more approachable, yet capable of producing wines with excellent balance and elegance.

It is particularly valued for:

  • Aromatic intensity (red berries, florals)
  • Fresh acidity (food-friendly, vibrant)
  • Silky texture (lighter tannin structure)

This makes it one of Georgia’s most versatile and under-the-radar premium varieties.
